Abstract:
Since long time ago humans has tried to treat their illness by natural remedies due to less of side effects and more safe. This study was evaluating anti-inflammatory activity of some Libyan plants (Globularia alypum, Myrtus communis, Asphodelus microcarpus and Lonicera erusca) collected from Aljabal Alakhdar area. Acute inflammation was induced by the intradermal injection of 0.02 μl of 2 % of carrageenan in the right hind paw of mice (20-25g). Group 1 received water as control, groups 2-9 injected with plant extractsof 500 mg/kg (IP) before 30 minutes from injection of carrageenan solution and group 10 injected by reference aspirin (100 mg/kg). The oedema volume was measured after 3 h from injection by plethysmometer. Globularia alypum gave the most inhibition of inflammation (P<0.05) after 3 h (56.2%) compared with aspirin (54.6%) as reported previously (Regina etal., 2002). Others as Myrtus communis, Asphodelus microcarpus and Lonicera erusca were gave percentage inhibition at 39.9, 28.1, 26.8 respectively. Plants might used in the treatment of inflammations which were compared with aspirin as well as seem to support the traditional use of this plant in relieving inflammation. Isolation of active compounds could be of great interest for future study.
